She was sitting on top of her nest full of three, I think, eggs. I'm going to have to go back down to the falls to check it out in a few days.

Color

Lots of fun shooting color today. Loved the hint of yellow with the bees buzzing around the violet flowers and the green stalks.

Playing with Photoshop

David takes off like a rocket in the Mens' Cat 4 crit at the Enumclaw Omnium. Love the shape of him and his bike and that the background is blurred, showing his speed.

Shape, form, repetiton, pattern

I was captivated by the shadows in the bottom photo. In the middle one, I was caught by the starkness of the white bikes with the white tent and the black accents. The repetition of the bike shapes (wheels, bars, etc.) was cool. I took a couple of shots of this. I don't think I quite did it justice. I meant to do exactly what happened in the top shot! I love the stillness of Jim and his chair vs. the racer flying by. I do wish I could have caught one of the kids on David's team so Jim would have been more dead on. I may have to stage that sometime.

I was totally turned on by this assignment. I am going to have a difficult time choosing which photo to submit for class critique.

May 13

I spent about 2 hours down at the Olympia Farmers' Market today. The Olympian is having a photo contest. The subject is the people and places of downtown Olympia, so I thought this would be a great place to shoot. Submitted photos have to be portrait rather than landscape... I may go back and try again when there is different light. I wasn't that pleased with a lot of my stuff.

My class went to Tumwater Falls Park today and shot. I was NOT satisfied with what I got, so I went back later in the day and found some inspiration! We were there from 11:30 til 2, and my time frame later was from about 5 until 7.

I need to get out and shoot today. I'm supposed to be working on metering. It scares me! For now, enjoy this shot taken a few weeks ago up at Marymoor Park in Redmond.

These are some of my favorite shots taken for my "Beyond the Basics" photography class. We have been given different assignments each week. Some relate to composition, others relate to using the technical aspects of our camera. Hopefully when I do the second, I can incorporate the first.
